Wicked Plants by Amy StewartWicked Plants

A tree that sheds poison daggers; a glistening red seed that stops the heart; a shrub that causes paralysis; a vine that strangles; and a leaf that triggered a war. In Wicked Plants, Stewart takes on over two hundred of Mother Nature’s most appalling creations. It’s an A to Z of plants that kill, maim, intoxicate, and otherwise offend.

CandyfreakCandyfreak by Steve Almond

Big Hunks, Abba-Zabas, Goo Goo Clusters, Valomilks, Twin Bings, Idaho Spuds, and more . . . Steve Almond takes a hilarious, sugar-high tour through America’s forgotten candy companies. Part social history and part stand-up comedy, Candyfreak offers us the bittersweet story of how America grew up on candy and how, for better or worse, candy has grown up, too.

Keep those comments coming!

All of your books look great!! They all look so interesting, I am looking for a good book to read and these look perfect for my taste in books. I love silly, scary, or just plain mysteries. Those are my types of books. “Candy Freak” looks funny, “Wicked Plants” looks like a mystery, and “Ghoulish Goodies” looks like a scary book. They would all be a great book for me. I love to read and I am very fast so I am always looking for a new book to read, so what I guess I am trying to say is that all of these books look great and a would be willing to read them.

All three books look like great reads!! I am a Candy Freak, so I can relate just to the title of that book, but it looks like it will be funny.

Thank you for the entry, and contest.

It is amazing how such fiendish books can be so educational, how to cook, how to poison and how to achieve a scholarly sugar high! An unbeatable combo. Put me on the list.

I heard a review of “Wicked Plants” on NPR, including an interview with the author, Amy Stewart. I was immediately hooked. Count me in!

Besides being a wickedly talented writer, Amy Stewart is destined for stardom–her appearance on PBS’ “The Botany of Desire” was great! As for the books: a great cauldron of Halloween offerings anyone would like to win!
