My reliable wife:
1. She will always have a fantastic bob of some sort
2. work out on lunch breaks and/or take kick boxing
3. always be employed at multiple simultaneous jobs, including ones that involve teaching pre-literate children yoga
4. also must be willing to ask men at a military base somewhere in VA how to get to the nearest dunkin donuts
5. and visit me in madison regularly…. including for a second honeymoon

(Sigh. But I think she’s already taken…)

I am lucky enough to already have a reliable husband! He:

1) lets me be the handy one and acts really impressed when I assemble or fix something.
2) is able to instantly recognize that one week each month during which I AM NOT THE ONE. and he’ll bring me low-fat ice cream without me having to ask, even if he has to go to three different grocery stores to find my favorite brand.
3) listens intently to all of my—and our families’, and our friends’, and our work colleagues’, and our clients’—boring stories and asks thoughtful questions.
4) will (eventually) be there when he says he will.
5) isn’t even a vegetarian (like i am) but makes the best vegan chili and vegan, gluten-free spaghetti!

My reliable spouse:

1) Lame, preferably a leg injury- makes him easier to catch
2) Blindingly attractive under the burka he wears to please me.
3) Absolutely never laughs when I insert obscure Harry Potter references into everyday conversation.
4) Thinks the basement dungeon is “cozy”
5) Irrational fear of weapons and other instruments of death a plus.

2. Comes home when they say they’ll come home
3. Does their chores and duties as expected without fail

A reliable spouse would have to have the following :

1. A good sense of humor (since i tend to be a clutz and often need a good laugh to avoid embarassment.)
2. Compassion (i’m vegan so it’s a must in my book!)
3. Creative and a good imagination (all things arts and crafts related. Reading, music, etc!)
4. Respect (allowing me to be myself, no matter how erratic)
5. Must NOT have a record of killing past spouses (not to much to ask for, right?)
