ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS MERGE
.
Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, I think it’s time that I can safely declare my love of holiday tunes. Last winter, I was belting, humming, and dancing along to “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” by Leon Redbone and Zooey Deschanel well into February. This winter, the biggest contender for my holiday earworm is Julian Koster’s rendition of “Frosty the Snowman” off The Singing Saw at Christmastime. Those of you who’ve read Our Noise—or who went to college with In an Aeroplane over the Sea safely in their iPod’s “Top 25 Most Played”—will know that Koster was the bass, banjo, and … singing saw … player for Neutral Milk Hotel. And, though it’s quite a departure from Neutral Milk Hotel’s sound, Koster’s solo Christmas album is pretty darn creepy-fantastic..
.
To get you in the holiday spirit, Algonquin and Merge are pairing up to give away TWO copies of The Singing Saw at Christmastime. And, if you promise you’ve been nice this year, we’ll even throw in a Merge tote bag, a Superchunk CD, and a copy of Our Noise: The Story of Merge Records, The Indie Label That Got Big and Stayed Small. Just leave a comment here on our blog or on our Facebook page to enter.

OK, I am shocked to learn that not a single one of the previously released eight (count ‘em, 8) ClausFest albums was not mentioned in your blog!
